However, following immediately may startle the animal and cause them to run further or injure themselves more. Calling for help may also delay the tracking process. Therefore, it is best to wait briefly before following the animal's trail. This gives the animal a chance to calm down and reduces the risk of further injury. Following in a vehicle may also startle the animal and is not a safe or effective way to track a wounded animal.
